Early Childhood Education Center

Early Childhood Education Center – Architecture is collaborating with the Council Bluffs Community School District to design a state-of-the-art early childhood education center. This grant aims to close the gap in society as a free opportunity for those families who cannot start a study program with their children. The design focuses on creating small learning spaces to provide fun and engaging opportunities for active learning and exploration.

Each class is directly connected to outdoor educational spaces that aim to provide motor development through climbing, playing, outdoor manipulation, tricks, etc. etc. An indoor water playroom engages students in multi-sensory activities. The dining hall focuses on family meals to teach skills that children cannot learn at home. Two separate motor skill rooms allow for different activities and acoustic separation of loud and fast activities in one room, while quieter activities can be accommodated in the other. Outdoor learning spaces are arranged in a controlled area with gardens, small outdoor halls and other group meeting/study spaces. Safety and security features are incorporated into the building and facility design to provide a safe and efficient environment.

Using geothermal and solar photovoltaic energy, the project is designed to be a net zero energy building upon completion, producing as much energy as it uses. The mass of the building is optimized for daylight and sensors that turn off the LED lights when they are not needed. The building envelope is designed to significantly exceed the required energy consumption ratio. By clicking “Accept”, you agree to the use of ALL cookies.
